The opening ceremony of the Islamic Tourism Week has been launched by YB Dato Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia at the Grand Ballroom, Zenith Hotel Putrajaya. In response to Malaysia being named Top Muslim-Friendly Destination of the Year by MasterCard-Crescent Rating 2022 and to commemorate the opening of borders and the arrival of international Muslim tourists to Malaysia, the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) is organising the first Islamic Tourism Week (ITW) from 20th June to 3rd July 2022.

The Islamic Tourism Week (ITW) is a week-long festival of events for tourists and entrepreneurs alike that highlights Malaysia's unique religious tourism experiences. This event invites the entire community to come together to enjoy beneficial activities and offers such as educational seminars, special hotel stays, attractive offers for the vibrant spa scenes, and incredible discounts at Malaysian retail outlets.

Under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia, the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) develops the Islamic tourism segment. As a Muslim-friendly tourism organization, it is also provides market intelligence, training, consultations, product standards, certifications, and information exchange for Muslim-friendly tourism (MFT).

Additionally, ITC's partners MFAR hotels will be showcased at the festival. Muslim-Friendly Accommodation Recognition (MFAR) is a government-issued recognition of Islamic tourism that extends MOTAC's star rating system. As of today, there are 53 MFAR hotels throughout the country.
