ParagonCorp Wardah, Komodo Water bring clean water access to residents in East Nusa Tenggara

ParagonCorp– the company that founded Wardah Beauty— launched the Langkah Alirkan Harapan program in collaboration with Komodo Water, aimed at providing clean water access to two villages in East Nusa Tenggara; Poco Dedeng Village, in Lempe Hamlet and Wae Tulu, West Manggarai Regency.

United Nation (UN) Secretary-General Special Envoy on Water, Retno Marsudi said the cross-sector collaboration is crucial in addressing the global water crisis, welcoming the initiative taken by ParagonCorp Wardah and Komodo Water in combatting the long-standing issue.

She highlighted that the availability of clean water access in these two villages is significant as it supports the residents in achieving better quality of life and realizing the aspirations of the nation’s future generations, stretching beyond infrastructure development.

“I have witnessed firsthand how water is a critical issue, a global issue, a humanitarian issue, and ultimately, a human rights issue. In many international forums, I always emphasize one point: without water, none of the sustainable development goals can be achieved.

“Water is the gateway to health, education, security, and progress. I have seen in many countries how water crises can trigger tension and conflict. But in Lempe and Wae Tulu, I see something different.

“Here, water has become a source of unity. Water has become a meeting point for communities, government, the private sector, and local organizations to move together and create a real ecosystem of change,” Marsudi said during the program inauguration on 28th November 2025.

The inauguration was also attended by Deputy CEO of ParagonCorp, Dr. Sari Chairunnisa; representative of the West Manggarai Regency Government, Aloisius Lahi; Founder and CEO of Komodo Water, Shana Fatina; President of Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCPN); Y.W. Junardy as well as village heads and community representatives from Lempe and Wae Tulu.

ParagonCorp Wardah in a statement said, the engagements between these various stakeholders demonstrates how collaboration among government, the private sector, and local communities can create an ecosystem for sustainable change.

The initiative, according to the Indonesian multinational FMCG company, also reflects the spirit of Wardah Beauty Moves You, which it carries forward to inspire women in contributing to create change and improve the quality of life in their communities.

Its Deputy CEO, Dr. Sari Chairunnisa said the company upholds values of goodness and beneficial impact where they believe that access to clean water is the first step towards a decent and improved quality of life.

“We hope the spirit of Paragon Wardah Brave Beauties will continue to live in the daily lives of women across Indonesia.

“Once this basic need is fulfilled, we hope to continue supporting the community through programs that develop local potential, from agriculture to education, so the impact we create can reach even further

“Together with ParagonCorp Wardah, we move together, for the greater good, for life,” she said.

According to an assessment by Komodo Water, the residents of Lempe and Wae Tulu spent 4-6 hours walking through dangerous terrain everyday, including steep climbs and descents, rocky and slippery paths, and cliff edges solely to obtain clean water.

“The condition placed women and children at risk for stunting and learning disruption, as children often took turns fetching water as far as having to bring water to school, causing significant delays to their study hours.

“These findings highlight the urgent need for cleaner, safer, and more accessible water sources for the community,” said Komodo Water.

The Langkah Alirkan Harapan Clean Water Initiative reaffirms ParagonCorp Wardah’s commitment to continuously delivering meaningful benefits to society.

In response, ParagonCorp Wardah and Komodo Water built a water supply system consisting of storage tanks, solar-powered water pumps and a piped network that utilizes gravity, implementing an energy-efficient system that is environmentally and community friendly.

The new infrastructure will allow residents to access water from multiple sources whether in their homes or public facilities such as prayer rooms, churches, health posts and schools, supporting local economic potential and impacting villagers positively.

For example, in Lempe where the residents produce up to 100 tons of candlenut per year as its main livelihood, can now process the products more easily thus improving quality and market value.

Similarly, residents in Wae Tulu can increase their cashew nut production thanks to better water availability.

Approximately more than 180 households (790 people) in Lempe Village and more than 120 households (465 people) in Wae Tulu Village will benefit from this initiative.

Head of Poco Dedeng Village, Donatus Sidi said the collaborative effort will allow them to utilize their time on more important things as well as focus on making their village a place for their children to grow and pursue their dreams, not just to survive.

On the same occasion, representative of the West Manggarai Regency Government, Aloisius Lahi appreciated the effort made by ParagonCorp Wardah and Komodo Water, saying that the organisations brought more than just water, but new hope to the community.

Through this initiative, ParagonCorp Wardah hopes to be closer to communities in need and provide solutions that not only address today’s challenges but also open opportunities for a better future.
