Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi proposed that halal product exhibitions and expos at all levels be synergistically coordinated to enhance their impact and strengthen efforts to advance the halal industry.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Chairman of the Halal Industry Development Council, stated that Malaysia hosts various halal product exhibitions, including the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), the Malaysia Halal Fiesta (Halfest), and the Karnival Usahawan Desa (KUD). However, their sole purpose is to meet both domestic and international market demands.
“The best approach is to gather all exhibitors and halal product manufacturers in one place and invite foreign traders to facilitate business matching (B2B) and explore the potential for products to be marketed internationally,” he said.
Next year, September will be designated as the annual Halal Products Month - Zahid Hamidi
He made this statement to the media after launching the entrepreneurs assembly organised by the Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce (DPIM), which was also attended by DPIM President Datuk Mohammad Sahar Mat Din.
Ahmad Zahid stated that halal industry players should not only focus on the final product but also consider the ingredients and materials produced through Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) by the consortium established within DPIM, the Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMM), and other associations, so that large-scale production can be achieved for the international market.
Ahmad Zahid also announced that starting next year, September will be designated as the annual Halal Products Month.
“This will bring together entrepreneurs and producers of materials and services such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, traditional medicine, herbs, and supplements to meet the demands of the international market,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid urged entrepreneurs to seize the expanding opportunities in the halal industry, noting that current halal product exports amount to RM53.72 billion, which is 3.8 percent of the country’s total exports.
