MARA Implements New Policy Only To Source Halal Raw Materials From Bumiputera Products
Requirement for all MARA food contractors, a new policy introduced by MARA.
All food contractors of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) are required to source raw materials from Bumiputera suppliers and products, and must have halal certification.
The Chairman of MARA, Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, stated that the requirement for all MARA food contractors is a new policy introduced by MARA.
“For example, supplies such as soy sauce, sauces, noodles, and others must be sourced from Bumiputera brands that hold valid halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the State Islamic Religious Department (JAIN).
“Suppliers of other raw materials, such as chicken, fish, vegetables, and others, must also be Bumiputera. All of this is included in the contractual agreements with the contractors of the MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) dining halls,” he said in a statement.
Asyraf Wajdi stated that this policy is aimed at assisting and empowering Bumiputera’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their businesses and become more competitive and advanced.
He stated that, in addition, the policy aims to ensure that the aspects of halalan toyibban are given serious attention based on the values of piety.
“Insya-Allah, I have also requested that continuous monitoring be carried out by the MRSM administrators and MARA’s district and state officers on a regular basis.
“I myself will make surprise visits at any time to ensure that compliance within these aspects is taken seriously,” he said.
