JAKIM Welcomes Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee as Director-General

Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee has officially been appointed as the new Director-General of JAKIM, effective today.

The Deputy Director General (Policy) of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee, has been appointed as the new Director-General of JAKIM, effective today.

Sirajuddin’s appointment is to strengthen JAKIM as the leading department for Islamic affairs in Malaysia - Shamsul Azri

Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, stated that the appointment of Sirajuddin, 57, is part of the effort to enhance the delivery of Islamic affairs services in line with the public service reform agenda and to strengthen JAKIM as the leading department for Islamic affairs in Malaysia.

He stated that Sirajuddin, who holds a Bachelor's degree in Shariah and Law from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), began his career in public service as an Assistant Director (Dakwah) at the Selangor Islamic Religious Department on January 2, 1992.

Sirajuddin, who also holds a Master's degree in Information Technology from Universiti Teknologi MARA and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from the University of South Australia, has previously served as the Senior Director of the Research Division at JAKIM, Director of the Halal Management Division at JAKIM, as well as First Secretary (Halal) at the Malaysian High Commission in Canberra, Australia.

At the same time, Shamsul Azri also announced the appointment of the former Director General of JAKIM, Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff, as the Religious Affairs Coordinator, overseeing coordination between JAKIM, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), and the Halal Development Corporation Bhd (HDC), effective today.

He stated that the appointment of Hakimah, who made history as the first woman to be appointed as the Director General of JAKIM, aims to foster an efficient and effective management of halal affairs in Malaysia that is recognized worldwide.

"With this appointment, I hope it will drive JAKIM towards elevating the dignity of Islam and enhancing JAKIM's position as a comprehensive and competitive Islamic affairs agency at the Federal level on the global stage," he said.
