A very interesting and clever way to ask Allah for increase in wealth was made by the companion Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah (رضي الله عنه).

He understood something many people forget:

Wealth itself is not the goal.

But wealth can help a believer do greater good.

More charity.

More help for people.

More opportunities to serve the Ummah.

So he made this duʿā.

—

اللَّهُمَّ هَبْ لِي حَمْدًا، وَهَبْ لِي مَجْدًا،

وَلَا مَجْدَ إِلَّا بِفِعَالٍ، وَلَا فِعَالَ إِلَّا بِمَالٍ،

اللَّهُمَّ لَا يُصْلِحُنِي الْقَلِيلُ، وَلَا أَصْلُحُ عَلَيْهِ

Transliteration

Allahumma hab li hamdan, wa hab li majdan,

wa la majd illa bifi‘al, wa la fi‘al illa bimal,

Allahumma la yuslihuni al-qalil, wa la asluhu ‘alayh.

Meaning

“O Allah, grant me praise and grant me honor.

There is no honor except through good deeds,

and good deeds cannot be done without wealth.

O Allah, little does not suffice me, and I cannot thrive upon it.”

This duʿā teaches a powerful mindset.

A believer does not chase wealth for ego.

A believer seeks wealth with barakah so he can:

• give charity

• help people

• support family

• build something beneficial

Wealth in the hands of a righteous person becomes a tool for good.

Make duʿā.

Work halal.

Trust Allah.

Because duʿā opens doors… but action walks through them.
