HWC COFFEE: Malaysia’s First Halal-Certified Specialty Coffee Chain with Exclusive Subscription Perks!
The first specialty coffee franchise in Malaysia, HWC COFFEE has recently come forward as Halal-certified in its mission to connect people from all walks of life with extraordinary coffee experience.
The international brand sought Halal certification when it first established itself in Malaysia in April 2022, realising the importance of Halal concerning the Muslims, a major demographic in this multicultural country.
The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of HWC COFFEE , Edmund Lai, said that they want all Malaysians to consume their product with confidence knowing that it is safe to take without crossing racial or religious boundaries.
The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of HHWC COFFEE , Edmund Lai during an interview with Kinihalal at a HWC COFFEE brand store.
“When the brand entered Malaysia, we respect all the races and make sure that Malay, Chinese or other races can consume our product safely so that is why we insist on having a Halal certificate.” He said during an interview with Kinihalal.
Edmund added that Halal is not just about the nature of the product itself but it includes the roasting process, coffee bean preparation, hygiene and cleanliness across the entire supply chain, from the warehouse, the roastery, to the brand store.
“By adhering to strict Halal and hygiene standards, we ensure the quality, safety, and integrity of every cup, making HWC COFFEE a brand customers can trust and enjoy with confidence.
“It is also to make sure that all the process of making our product is in the Standard of Procedure (SOP), because Halal has its own SOP so we want to follow. “ He said.

The brand in a statement also said that being Halal-certified expands their target market and resonates with their values to uphold inclusivity and diversity, catering their specialty coffee to all Malaysians including the Muslims.
Although, now Halal provides a level playing ground for HWC COFFEE to compete with other coffee brands, the franchise seeks to widen the gap between them and their competitors by focusing on specialty coffee.
Unlike others, they only serve specialty beans which stemmed from a lengthy, meticulous and labour-intensive process, Edmund said.
HWC Coffee’s house blend beans are rated at 92 out of 100 points by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) of America.
“From farm to cup, how they plant the coffee, from the weather, the land height to the process, the roasting until serving into Americano, for example, it undergoes a process.
“So when they are doing the testing, it’s not only just for the beans. It includes where to plant and how fine the beans are, because commercial beans are picked up with machines while ours are handpicked.” He elaborated.
This production chain allows for bean separation, ensuring consistent high standard beans output delivered into the cup of their customers.
Currently, HWC Coffee’s house blend beans are rated at 92 points while their upcoming seasonal beans are rated at 95 points by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) of America, both exceptional beans surpassing the minimum requirement of 80 points to be considered specialty beans, Edmund added.
Coffee Hunter+ is a coffee subscription plan that allows daily coffee drinkers at HWC COFFEE to enjoy specialty coffee while receiving many benefits.
For daily coffee drinkers, they can subscribe to HWC COFFEE ’s Coffee Hunter+ membership starting from RM9.90 per month to enjoy up to six complimentary drinks worth RM14.90 each, receive 30 pieces of 20 percent off vouchers and a monthly exclusive voucher.
