World Durian Championship is set to return this year

Bangi Golf Resort (BGR) announced that the World Durian Championship will return this year where it remains as a proud celebration of Malaysia’s durian culture, innovation and global ambitions, cementing the country’s place as the home of the King of Fruits.

The organiser in a statement said, the championship held in conjunction with the Durian Festival and Awards has grown into one of Malaysia’s go-to events in celebrating the all-time-favourite fruit since its launch in 2018.

Aimed at raising farming standards while bringing producers and consumers closer together, BGR said the festival has become more than just a gathering, but a place to share ideas, explore new innovations and connect Malaysia’s durian producers with the world.

Founded and chaired by Director of BGR, Soh Chung-Ky and Director of Bangi Farm Resort, Tan Ban Keat, the festival are supported by partners such as Durian Manufacturer Association (DMA) led by its President, Eric Chan, Department of Agriculture, Bangi Golf Resort and Bangi Resort Hotel.

Aside from World Durian Championship, participants can also enjoy various durian-focused activities during the event including Durian Knowledge Forum, Durian Farmers’ Market, Durian Gala Dinner, Durian Swordsman and Durian Run which was first launched in 2019.

Durian Knowledge Forum offers hands-on workshops for farmers and serious growers.

“The Durian Knowledge Forum offers hands-on workshops for farmers and serious growers, with industry experts sharing practical tips on cultivation, quality control and the latest trends.

“Over at the Durian Farmers’ Market, farmers, small traders and local agricultural businesses from across Malaysia come together in a lively open-air setting to showcase fresh durians, farming tools and agricultural products.

Durian Swordsman highlights precision, knife skill, and endurance as contestants expertly slice the king of fruits.

“Adding some fun and friendly competition are crowd favourites like the Durian Swordsman, where participants race to show off their speed and skill in opening durians,” said the organiser.

Although, the biggest highlights of each year remains the competition itself where farmers send in their best durians to compete across categories such as Musang King (D197), Black Thorn (D200), Registered Clones and Open Category before going head-to-head in the King of Kings round to determine the best durian of them all.

BGR Durian Festival & Awards, officially awarded the ASEAN Record for the First Regional-Level Durian Competition Since 2018.

Beyond event grounds, BGR stated that the Durian Festival and Awards has also been recognised by the ASEAN Book of Records as the first regional-level durian competition since 2018.

“Looking ahead, organisers have confirmed that the Durian Festival & Awards will return in 2026.

“Farmers, industry players and durian fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for official updates on dates, participation details and what’s new for the next edition,” said the organiser.
