JKNS launches QR code in campaign for food safety during Ramadan
The Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) yesterday launched a Food Safety Campaign Quick Response (QR) code to allow the public to channel their complaints on Ramadan bazaar traders’ misconduct.
Its director, Dr Ummi Khalthom Samsudin said the department will attend to any complaints lodged through the QR code for further action.

“Further action according to the Food Act 1983 as well as rules in conjunction to it will be applied if any misconduct takes place,” she said to reporters after Ihya’ Ramadan 2025: Jelajah Bazar Ramadan Selangor programme at Bazar Ramadan Stadium Shah Alam, which was officiated by the Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship exco, Mohd Najwan Halimi.

Ummi Khalthom added that the QR code also provides access to numerous tips for food safety during Ramadan such as food selection at Ramadan bazaars, practising “see, smell and taste” to prevent food poisoning, tips on storing leftovers, as well as how to purchase dates.
“All of this information is delivered in an infographic form that is interesting and easily comprehensible.
“Sellers and the public may obtain the information by scanning the QR code on the banner placed at selected bazaars,” she said.
Ummi Khalthom also informed that JKNS had placed more than 200 health officers to conduct random checks at 236 bazaar sites involving 15,349 Ramadan bazaar traders across Selangor.
She added this will allow the health department and local authorities to ensure that the food sold is clean and safe for consumption.
