Ghee oil is better than butter, act as non-dairy alternative
Ghee oil might resemble canned butter but its usage provides an array of benefits for consumers who are looking for healthier alternatives, especially for those with lactose intolerance.
Although extracted from cow milk butter, the common culinary delicacy from India and Middle East is produced by churning the butter, skimming impurities and retaining the clear liquid fat with only trace amounts of milk sugars and protein remaining.
Managing Director of Alzara Foods Sdn Bhd, Yazid Manap said, ghee oil contains essential nutrients vital for our wellbeing such as vitamin A, D, E and K when produced naturally.
“People are skeptical of ghee oil, thinking it can cause heart problems but that is just a myth.
Ghee oil tastes similar to margerines but it is healthier than butter.
“In my opinion, the myth stems from a misunderstanding because if we conduct a scientific study, we will discover that anything made naturally is good for our health,” he said during an interview with Kinihalal.
Vitamin E, for example, consists of significant antioxidant properties that can reduce the risks of cancer, arthritis, cataracts and heart disease while vitamin K plays a crucial role in blood clotting, aiding wound healing.
Although butter contains the same nutrients, ghee oil has a more concentrated amount of vitamin A, D, E and K since water and milk solids are removed during the clarification process, making it a healthier option.
Medical physician at Parsley Health, Dr. Nisha Chellam said, ghee oil consists of 47 percent of saturated fats and if consumed about 10 percent of total calorie intake, it can reduce cholesterol levels, fatty acids and triglycerides as well as risk of atherosclerosis.

“Ghee oil decreases leukotrienes which causes inflammation, thromboxane that leads to blood clotting in acute coronary syndromes, and arachidonic acid which contributes to atherosclerosis.
“It also contains carotenoids that improve brain, skin and heart health,” she said in a statement posted via her LinkedIn.
However, Yazid said, ghee oil like any other substance should be consumed in moderation to avoid adverse effects, a principle that aligns with Islamic teaching.
“Ghee oil is actually beneficial for the body if it is not taken in abundance and in accordance to Islamic principles that emphasises moderation in everything we do and consume,” he said.
